I’ve noticed this as well. I’m western and know little of Japanese culture, but I do know that the things westerners think are ‘quirky’ and ignore— such as the thanking of clothes and the blessing of the space — are the most important parts of her method. I have taken to thanking my possessions regularly and it has changed my view of life.
